75-year-old Bryce Smith was killed on his property in Bedias following a bee attack on Tuesday.
Smith was on his bulldozer clearing trees when the attack happened, the hive was unknowingly in one of the trees when it was disturbed. Smith was stung over 60 times on his face an neck.
Due to the severity of the attack, it is believed the bees that attacked him are likely Africanized honeybees, according to Juliana Rangel, a Honeybee Scientist with Texas A&M AgriLife Research.
Smith was a lifelong resident of Grimes County. Visitation and fellowship will be this Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Madisonville Funeral Home.
A funeral service for Bryce Harold Smith will be held this Saturday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Madisonville, Texas. Interment will follow in Bedias Baptist Cemetery.
