According to a press release from the Grimes County District Attorney’s office, “On Wednesday June 12, 2024, Margarito Anguiano, age, 44, pled guilty to Sexual Assault of a Child. On September 25, 2023, Navasota PD School Resource Officer Crystal Martin was made aware of a 14-year-old female student making an outcry of sexual abuse.
Navasota Police Investigator Travis Mullins began working on the case. The female victim was taken for a forensic interview. She disclosed Margarito Anguiano had penetrated her with his fingers and made her perform oral sex on him.
On January 22, 2024, Texas DPS Agent Clay Zotz conducted a non-custodial interview with Anguiano at the Navasota Police Department. Agent Zotz obtained a confession to the digital penetration of the victim, though Anguiano denied the oral sex allegation.
On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, Margarito Anguiano pled guilty before 506th District Judge Gary Chaney. Anguiano was sentenced to 15 years in prison in a plea agreement made by Assistant District Attorney Meagan Callaham.
Sexual Assault of a Child is a second-degree felony, which carries a punishment range of 2 to 20 years in prison.
Anguiano is in the Grimes County Jail awaiting the transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.”
Assistant District Attorney Meagan Callaham said, “Investigator Mullins and Agent Zotz did great work in this investigation. Their work built a strong case, which led the defendant to plead guilty and take his punishment for victimizing a young girl.”
