According to a press release from the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, which reads in part,
“On Monday March, 2024 Michael Laderrick Oaks, age 23, was sentenced to prison for Sexual Assault of a Child and Assaulting a Pregnant Person.
In April 2022, the Navasota Police Department received information Michael Oaks had sex with a 15-year-old student.
Navasota Police Investigators began looking into the information and located the victim who confirmed Oaks did have sex with her at an apartment complex in Navasota following a party. The victim stated Oaks was aware she was underage at the time of the offense.
In March 2023, District Attorney Chief Investigator John Wren interviewed Oaks and obtained a confession to the sexual assault. Oaks was indicted the same month.
In September 2023, while out on bond for the sexual assault, Oaks assaulted his pregnant girlfriend by striking her in the face during an argument.
On Monday, March 18, 2024, Michael Oaks pled guilty to Sexual Assault of a Child and Assault of a Pregnant Person in the 12th District Court presided over by Judge David Moorman.
Oaks was sentenced to 10 years in prison for Sexual Assault of a Child, a second-degree felony.
Oaks was sentenced to 4 years in prison for Assault of a Pregnant Person, a third-degree felony.
Michael Oaks had no previous felony convictions.
Oaks was taken into custody in the courtroom and is currently in the Grimes County Jail awaiting transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Oaks will be required to register as a sex offender in Texas for the remainder of his life upon his release from prison.”
Grimes County District Attorney, Andria Bender is quoted as saying, “There is no acceptable reason for the type of conduct Michael Oaks has engaged in with both of these cases. The Grimes County community does not tolerate this type of behavior and neither does our office.”
