The Texas Highway 249 Project slated to run right into Grimes County has gotten some safety upgrades added, thanks to help from Grimes County.
Speaking at the most recent State of the City event last week, County Judge Joe Fauth talked about the Road and Bridge work happening in the county, but namely, the 249 project, and what fixes were decided necessary.
“At one time, all of our intersections were going to be at grade level. Which means, there were going to be stop signs, and traffic lights. With 70 mile per hour speed limits, it just was not going to work,” said Fauth.
So, the upon seeing that months ago, the county expressed their concerns to TXDOT, who listened to their needs, and presented a plan for four elevated crossovers on Highway 249.
“One of them is at FM 1774, one at CR 304, one at CR 306 and CR 307, those four were added,” Fauth said.
Fauth noted that, while it is a large use of tax dollars, it is worth it in the long run.
“I am extremely grateful, whether you like the project or not, this makes it a much safer project for us, and thos ewho travel through our county,” Fauth said.
There is no specific finish date for the Highway 249 project, but Judge Fauth did say they look to be slightly ahead of schedule.
