Grimes County Proposes New Budget

September 2, 2017 by Willy1550

Grimes County Commissioners held a special meeting to adopt next year’s county budget, which turned out to be significantly longer than had been anticipated.  The meeting that is, not the budget.

Several last minute changes had been brought up at another special meeting the day before, which resulted in even more changes, which County Judge Ben Lehman then had to detail for an hour, eventually achieving unanimous consent from the entire court to adopt a $24,212,638.28 Grimes County Budget for 2017-2018.

A budget Grimes County’s willing to pay for, by the way, by charging the same property tax rate that its been charging for the last several years, 0.053 cents per $100 of assessed value, doing away with the need for two public hearings.

So now all that the County has to do to finalize both next year’s budget and tax rate is to pass them, which the Court plans to do at its next regular session at 9 Tuesday morning, September 12th.  And Navasota News will be there, just in case you can’t be.
