The blaze of summer has given the Road and Bridge department in Grimes County plenty of time to get caught of on paving roads.
Engineer Harry Walker gave an update at Wednesday’s Commissioner’s Court meeting.
“Probably 2 weeks away from finishing the first course. We have slowed down because of the lack of availability of water sources. Some companies have had to cut us off, which means longer times to take the tanker, and fill it somewhere else,” said Walker. “But, we have not lost any time to rain days.”
He said they have shut down shredding, but not mowing, due to the fire hazard ongoing with the drought.
Walker was also asked about when Fuqua Construction might begin building the County Road 406 bridge.
“They have not given a specific date, but they have been saying early August for some time now. I anticipate we will have a kick-off meeting with TXDOT, sometime in the next week or so,” Walker said.
It was noted too that, should you see overgrown vegetation that is creating a blind corner for turning on a roadway, you can contact the county to have them come trim it.
