The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying individuals who were observed trespassing at Iola elementary school.

According to a Friday Facebook post, the incident took place around 2:30 am on September 27th. A camera at Iola elementary observed five white males and three white females, ranging in age from 17 to 20 years old, enter the building through a back door. They were inside the building several minutes before departing.

In that time, there was a basketball and small Bulldog statue stolen. In the Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office said everyone makes mistakes, and assume this was an opportunistic endeavor. The Sheriff’s Office aid that the individuals have two weeks to return the stolen property to Iola ISD, or criminal charges will be pursued.

Iola ISD allowed a grace period for the items to be returned because no further criminal acts were committed in the building, and they understand a felony charge at a young age can be detrimental.

The Sheriff’s Office asks that you contact their Criminal Investigations Lieutenant James Ellis with any information pertaining to the case at 936-873-6421.
