Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant passes away, services set for Thursday

June 15, 2020 by Willy1550

The Grimes County sheriff’s Office has announced the death of a long-time member of the department.

According to a Facebook post on Sunday night, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Don Sowell posted that Sgt. Jim Adkins passed away in Navasota at his home Saturday night.

Sowell said many people have reached out to his office, extending sympathies and prayers. Sowell commended Adkins work at the Grimes County jail, where he worked as jail sergeant, saying he was the go-to man to resolve any problem, saying many have learned under his watchful eye.

In a public notice on Monday, it was announced that the funeral service for Sargent Adkins has been finalized for this Thursday, June 18th, at Union Grove Baptist Church in Richards. There will be a visitation from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, with the funeral and graveside service at Pool Cemetery to follow.

The family is asking for friends and loved ones to send photos of Sergeant Jim Adkins, so they can be placed in a video for the ceremony. You can send them to john.wren@grimescountytexas.gov no later than 5 pm Tuesday, June 18th.
