Grimes County Sheriff’s Office warns against scam

March 5, 2019 by Willy1550

A recent scam within the county has the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office warning residents.

According to a post on Facebook from the Sheriff’s Office, an individual is contacting residents of the county by phone, claiming to be Captain Ryan Rutledge, Lt. Daniel Wagnon or Livestock Officer Randy Cleere. The person has called people claiming they have different types of warrants, ranging from FTA’s to court summons, and need to pay through Dollar General stores to take care of the fees. Then, the scammer tells people to obtain money gift cards or other forms of payment at their local Dollar General, then give the card number to the caller to avoid further legal action.

Be aware that this is a scam. If you are contacted by this person, you are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office immediately at 936-873-2151.
