Grimes County State Senator Charles Schwertner against new bill, which bans open carry at public demonstrations

January 25, 2021 by Willy1550

One local State Senator says one of the newest senate bills, which would ban open carry of guns within five hundred feet of a public demonstration, will likely not reach a vote.

That bill is among the hundreds filed in the Texas legislature this session. Grimes County State Senator Charles Schwertner was asked, during his weekly visit on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs in College Station, what he thinks of Senate Bill 311.

“Will that see the light of day, on the floor of the senate? What are your thoughts on it?” asked host Scott DeLucia.

“Well, no, is the simple answer,” Schwertner chuckled.

He says he isn’t sure the proposal will be assigned to a committee.

“I believe the 2nd Amendment rights, to be able to lawfully open carry, which is the law here in Texas, should not be changed,” said Schwertner.

Schwertner also added a newly elected senator, who is the former county judge in Travis County, filed the legislation.
