You may have noticed that some of our local law enforcement personnel have begun sporting body cameras. That’s because, at a time where many controversies have strained public trust in law enforcement, Grimes County’s Sheriff says he wants to get ahead of the curve.
There are always concerns about what goes on whenever law officers have interactions with those they serve, Sheriff Don Sowell tells Navasota News, so the new cameras give his deputies more accountability.
And as for complaints, the sheriff says he hasn’t heard any.
Sowell wants all of his officers to be able to work officially and professionally, he continues, and now if any interference occurs on anybody’s part, it will be recorded.
So when you notice a camera on one of Grimes County’s finest, the sheriff smiles, don’t worry. That just means the eyes of Texas are on both of you.
