Guilty verdict handed to former Texas A&M football player

May 1, 2019 by Willy1550

A former Texas A&M football player has been convicted of hacking a Dallas jogger to death with a machete four years ago.

A jury seated in Dallas County on Monday returned a guilty verdict on Tuesday. This was after the lawyers of former Aggie wide receiver Thomas Johnson declined to call any witnesses. The trial follows years of dispute over Johnson’s ability to stand trail due to his mental competence.

According to the prosecutors, the 25 year old Johnson confessed to the machete attack of the 53 year old that was running on a trail in East Dallas in 2015. DNA evidence also played a role in his guilty verdict.

Johnson played football at A&M in 2012, where he was reported missing in the days following Aggies’ win over Alabama. He was found days later. Johnson left the program shortly after that incident.
