High water results in rescue of Grimes County mail carrier

May 18, 2020 by Willy1550

Heavy rain and high water from Friday night rains led to the rescue of a Grimes County mail carrier who became stuck.

Authorities in Grimes County said they were called to rescue the mail carrier around 1 pm Saturday, in the 12000 block of County Road 112, near Iola.

Deputies observed the vehicle was sinking, and slowly moving off the roadway. The carrier said that she did not expect the water to be as high as it was. She was rescued, but the vehicle remained until water receded on Saturday night.

The car was not an official US Postal Service vehicle, but the woman’s personal vehicle she uses to run mail.
Assisting Grimes County deputies was Texas DPS, Game Wardens, and the Iola VFD.

The woman was not injured and not taken to a hospital.
