A Calvert man was arrested for DWI Monday afternoon for causing a crash on Highway 6 near the Grimes County line.
According to the arrest report from DPS, they responded to a crash around 2:45 pm on Highway 6 southbound, just south of FM 2154. Officers were told a man in a green car caused the accident and was drunk.
When officers approached the man, he talked unclear and slow, and was the only one in the vehicle, which had no damage. The man admitted to having two quarts of Busch between 11 am and 2 pm, when asked by officers. They smelled alcohol on his breath, and performed a field sobriety test, which the driver then failed.
The man was arrested, and identified as 62 year old Johnnie Gilmore of Calvert. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. Officers also observed a half empty 32 oz. bottle of Busch between driver seat and floor, which led to an additional Open Container charge.
The “Intoxilyzer 9000” test run by deputies indicated Gilmore had a BAC of .279, according to the report.
Gilmore remains in the Brazos County jail on bonds totaling $3,000.
