Holiday lights in downtown Navasota look slightly different after Washington Avenue improvements

December 14, 2020 by Willy1550

Downtown Navasota has always dressed its best when it comes to Christmas, with lights up all down Washington Avenue. But, things look a little different this year, with the absence of lights strung across buildings, hanging over the street.

So, why is that?

City Manager Brad Stafford explained recently during an episode of Grilling Stafford.

“Those are in storage because we had multiple changes along Washington Avenue the last few years, and there are no poles left to hang them. Most people did not realize we hung those off power poles that Entergy had there. But, because of all the work we have been dong, putting lines underground, and replacing power poles in our downtown, that has kind of gone away,” said Stafford.

He says they are going to look at trying to get those back up somehow in the future.

“There may be a way, but it is a little different. We do no want to add poles. We took the poles out for a reason, we do not want to add poles,” said Stafford.
