Horse Abuse Alleged in Iola

June 2, 2018 by Willy1550

Grimes County Rescue Network activists brought KBTX to the Commissioners Court recently to witness their stories of horse abuse in Iola.

Holding pictures aloft for the camera to see, neighbor Kay Pack shook her finger at Sheriff Don Sowell as if he were there . . . which he wasn’t.

She said it had been three years since he had been told that these horses were starving to death, adding that the citizens who “pay your salary,” are demanding action.

The Sheriff’s Department is aware of the allegations, but Livestock Officer Randy Clear says they only heard of it a couple of weeks ago.

Deputy Clear says the hospitalized man’s family had been negligent in their promise to take care of the five horses in his absence.

And the deputy tells Navasota News that so far as one neighbor’s allegation that she’s been trying to get the Sheriff’s Office to come for the past five years, he claims that she lives right down the road and has to see the horse every time she leaves the house, adding that he has never received a call from her about that animal.

Deputy Clear says he and another investigator are working with the owner to get the horses cared for, and will continue monitoring them on a weekly basis to ensure that they are.
