Interstate 14 project that would cut through the Brazos Valley still 15-20 years out

March 22, 2022 by Andre Perrard

Construction of the first interstate highway to cross through the Brazos Valley is not expected to start for 15 to 20 years.

But, representatives of local governments agree that now is the time to get to the front of line for building this stretch of Interstate 14 and the eye-214 loop that will serve Bryan/College Station, and the surrounding area.

“Folks in San Angelo, they are all over this as well. Because they, incorrectly, claim they are the biggest city in the state without an Interstate connection,” said College Station Mayor Karl Mooney. “Well, sorry San Angelo, we have you beat by about 25,000 people.”

He also touched on the push many years ago, which would have made fabulous Highway 6 an official Interstate highway.

“If only we knew back then, what we know now,” said Mooney.

Dan Rudge, with the Bryan-College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization says a seven year feasibility study began last November. That will be followed by environmental studies that will lead to where the interstate will be built.
