Investors in Navasota are looking into building a new apartment complex for the first time in about 10 years.
Councilman Grant Holt discussed what the Planning and Zonning Committee talked about recently for a 22 unit complex at Durden and Old Courtney Road, off Spur 515.
“It was recommended that they table everything, plat and all. One of the big questions [the investor] had, was an explanation…an apartment unit in our ordinances as a subdivision, so they are required park and sidewalks,” Holt said at a recent city council meeting.
The developers, according to Holt, are two locals who have built property in town.
The cost for adding in all of that was around $30,000, but sidewalks cannot be built due to the ditches in that area. In addition, building a park would reduce the unit number from 22 down to 9 units.
Holt said that the ordinance is going to be reviewed, and may be brought before council to be updated before any plat is formally presented.
“One thing that was mentioned…the last update P&Z did in regard to this item was in 2010. There have not been an apartment complexes or anything t be developed in this time period. So, it is going t be brought up, and reviewed,” said Holt.
A reminder, no actin was taken by council, or P&Z, and the ordinance will be up for discussion and potential change at a later date.
