Iola ISD hosting Robotics Camp after an inaugural year full of successes

July 19, 2022 by Willy1550

The Iola ISD robotics team had a banner year in their first year, going all the way to some state finals, and impressing some much bigger competition along the way.

The team was formed, in part to a partnership with Blue Jay Solar and Enel Green Power, which team member Brian Crosby said in a video from the district brought new opportunity to their small community.

“At a small school, opportunities can be more limited,” said Crosby. “Now, our school is getting those opportunities that were never here before.”

The team earned the award for Rookies of the Year during their sate trip to Houston, for UIL classes 1A through 4A.

Head coach for the team Krisha Goodney says the partnership between Iola and, Blue Jay Solar, and Enel Green was unlike any other.

“It really made me emotional that we could do that. That in our first year, we could form a group of kids together, and make it happen here. And that is just a blessing, to have a company that will support us,” said Goodney.

If you would like to get the kids into robotics camp, Iola ISD is holding their own.

That will be July 25th through 27th, held at the high school from 9 am until noon each day.
