Iola man arrested for wielding machete in Bryan

A man from Iola was arrested for wielding a machete to steal a bicycle on Texas Avenue in Bryan.

Authorities say they responded to a 911 call near Hensel Avenue and Texas around 5:45 pm yesterday. That is where the victim said a man was cursing at traffic. The victim then rode by on his bicycle, where the man with the machete began chasing him. Thevictim, being afraid he was about to be attacked, jumped off the bike.

According to the victim, the man started walking away with the bike until he heard police sirens. He then attempted to throw the bike away before officers arrived.

The man was identified as 48 year old Heriberto Ariza of Iola. He was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery. He remains in the Brazos County Jail in lieu of 19 thousand dollar bond.
