Iola man fleeing welfare check of infants facing two felony charges of assaulting a police officer

An Iola man is in jail after assaulting Grimes County depuities.

Authorities were called for a welfare check of two infants last Friday night off County Road 113A, near Cross. They found 24 year old Taylor Stabler attemptoing to leave the residence, and stopped the vehicle.

Stable refused to comply with any instructions, and after 20 minutes of kerfuffle, officers hatched a plan to enter the car with a key fob, and remove Stabler.

As they attempted removing him, Stabler grabbed an officer by the vest, and pulled him into the vehicle. When another officer intervened, Stabler struck both in the face. The report also says he tried biting officers after being subdued.

Stabler faces two felony counts of Assault of a Peace Officer, and Resisting Arrest. He remains in the Grimes County jail on bonds totaling $105,000.
