For the 11th year, the Iola Volunteer Fire Department is having their annual cook-off once again!
There will be plenty ongoing that March weekend, with live entertainment, and of course, the IBCA Sanctioned Cook-off.
“We will have an entry meat for cookers of Chicken, Pork Spareribs, and Brisket, then two open meat and bean categories,” said Iola VFD Chief J.D. Gwynn. “We start planning this out early in the year…cannot wait for it.”
He says since this event has gone state-sanctioned, the number of entrants to the cook-off has exploded.
“Last year, we had right at 47 cookers. We are hoping this year we exceed that, and push it over 50 cookers,” said Gwynn.
The event gets kicked off Friday, March 17th with live music and a dinner, then the cook-off is ongoing Saturday, March 18th. Winner of the cook-off gets an automatic ticket to the state finals.
