Navasota’s Kickstart Kids continue their winning ways. First, in part one of the Central Texas Spring Championships at Pflugerville Middle School, where Master Ben Mendez took more than five dozen local students.
He says our Intermediate Team was the second to perform and their score held every other team that came after us, so we held all the way up to a First Place finish, and our Advance Team were the first ones to perform and they were able to bring home a Third Place finish this time.
Following that was a National Black Belt event in New Orleans, where three local kids shone. One was 6th grader Darrell Stratton, Junior, in his first year with Kickstart, three years behind his older brother who’ll be going for his black belt later this year, and who captured two first places, himself.
And a new local Kickstart rivalry was born in New Orleans as well, between two of Navasota’s older kids; Fredrick Stratton and Emily England, both currently holding Red Belts with Black Stripe.
Emily took a 3rd place in Forms, beating Fredrick’s 4th place, so they have a nice little rivalry going on between each other.
Besides besting Stratton’s 4th place Traditional Forms by capturing the third, England also took 5th place for Creative Weapons.
Meanwhile, in addition to his 4th place in Traditional Forms, Stratton also took 1st place in Superfight, 2nd place in Creative Weapons, 3rd place in Continuous Sparring and 4th in Point Sparring.
