As the school year winds down, and the KickStart Kids Competitions wrap up, that does not mean it is too late to get your kiddo involved in all the high kicking fun.
Master Benjamin Mendez stopped by to talk with us recently about their performances in the State Championships, where a few kids took home state medals and titles. But he says even after that pressure filled event, the year is not done just yet for his pupils.
“We have Black Belt Testing, my daughter Grace Mendez will be testing for her first degree black belt, and then Christopher Price will test for his second degree black belt in the Kickstart Kids Program. They have already done the first stage, the preliminary testing…then, if they get approved, they go on to the actual test,” said Mendez. “That is in front of a black belt board, we bring in instructors from the Brazos Valley, sometimes Houston, to make judgements.”
They will also have the annual belt ceremony for all the students, which will be Thursday, May 19th.
And with all their success in past years, they recently got a brand new dojo, thanks to bond project renovations happening out at Navasota Junior High School. If you have been wondering how it has worked out for them…
“The Chuck Norris Dojo is awesome. We have our new home there, everyone is welcome to come take a look. The kids love it, it is 2,000 square feet of floor space we really needed to be able to perform what we do,” said Mendez.
