The 7th annual Kiwanis Club Chili Cookoff is coming up February 20th in Grimes County. And once again, they are inviting out everyone who wants to see how their recipe stacks up against the rest!
“We are going to be sanctioned by Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI), so the CASI cooks can come, and obtain points for their efforts to get to Terlingua. And, we are also reaching out to the area cooks, that compete in events around the county,” said Richard Grimes, a member of the Kiwanis Club.
They will be judging chili, beans and even Bloody Mary’s, which is a first for the event.
But, you don’t just have to go for the food, there are plenty of other things to do out there as well.
“We are going to raffle off a cow at $75 a ticket…we are also doing a car show and motorcycle show, for folks who want to come and show off their vehicles. In addition, we are doing two raffle items. One, is an AR-15, thanks to Circle Star Firearms…also, a thermal hog hunt, with a two night stay at 7D Ranch, for two folks, with all the provisions you would expect,” said Grimes.
If you want to get out there and try your hand at it, there is no pre-registration to get involved. Just show up that day to sign up, and get cooking.
Entry fees for the Chili Cookoff are $25, while the Beans and Bloody Mary’s are both $10 each to enter.
That event is happening Saturday, February 20th, with gates opening at 7 am that morning.
