Action at the Grimes County line stayed busy this Labor Day weekend, with the arrest of two separate people, one for driving drunk and the other for an invalid license.
The first traffic stop happened around 8 am on Saturday, when reports of a reckless driver came into authorities. Eventually stopped at the Navasota River was 63 year old Alex Ybarra of Galveston.
When asked what he had consumed, Ybarra said he had 2 beers about 45 minutes prior, and last ate at 4 o’clock the previous day. After failing sobriety tests, Ybarra was jailed on a DWI charge, and released after posting bond.
Around noon that same day, police caught up with a vehicle suspected in numerous Bryan tire and rim thefts.
Officers stopped the man near the River. They noticed 36 year old Rodney Tates of Brenham from other thefts incidents, and was known to have a suspended license. In the car, officers found a stolen license plate out of Harris County.
Tates was also in possession of several instruments to steal tires, which included a hydraulic jack, bolt cutters, rubber mallet, and bricks, among other items.
He faces a charge of Driving with License Invalid w/Previous Conviction, and Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument. Tates was released after posting an $8,000 bond.
