Residents along the Navasota River, be aware of rising river levels in the next week, as authorities at Lake Limestone will be releasing water through the dam.
County Road and Bridge Engineer talked on that during his update at Wednesday’s Commissioner Court meeting. He says that will lead to some closures.
“As of this morning [Wednesday] the river crossings were not closed yet, but they will be later on today [Wednesday],” said Walker.
Walker said they were notified on Wednesday, as were first responders, so they can find alternate routes. He said as well, most people along the affected route are on the contact list, and have been notified.
Commissioner Barbara Walker asked about their authority as a court to set the flow rates, which County Judge Joe Fauth answered.
“I think they have all of that because of the Army Corps of Engineers, they have that stipulated. Because they have to let it out, because of pressure put on the dam…so, they can only release so much through the spillway,” said Fauth.
Harry Walker added release rates are something best left to dam managers, as they know the flow rates and exactly how much water can be released before roads become submerged.
In addition in his report, Walker noted that they dealt with a few downed trees from storms this week, but no other major concerns have risen.
