The names of those Catholic priests with credible sexual abuse allegations against them were released yesterday afternoon across the State of Texas. And three of them were named in Navasota.
According to information released by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, three priests who served in Navasota were identified as well as priests who served in Huntsville, Crockett and Trinity. The accusations do not necessarily mean the priests committed the acts while serving in Navasota or the surrounding areas, just that they served there during their times as priests.
Bryan and College Station are in the Diocese of Austin, which says that 9 of the 22 priests accused of abuse in the last 70 years served in Bryan, Hearne, Calvert, Cameron and Marlin. The Diocese of Tyler, which includes Madison County, identified one priest who served in Tyler.
Cardnial Daniel DiNardo of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston released a statement on their website saying: “The Bishops of Texas have decided to release the names of these priests at this time because it is right and just and to offer healing and hope to those who have suffered. On behalf of all who have failed in this regard, I offer my sincerest apology. Our Church has been lacerated by this wound and we must take action to heal it…”
