It is time to head to the polls, as local May elections return in May, just over a months from now.
Even after a big November 2020 election, which saw the 2020 May elections crammed in, county elections administrator Lucy Ybarra says there is still plenty on the ballot this time.
“It is almost county wide. We have two school districts participating in four cities,” said Ybarra.
“Richards ISD is going for a bond, which is a big deal, they are a smaller district, so they are going for a big bond,”
“You have Anderson Shiro CISD who have school board positions,”
“Then, you have the City of Navasota, City of Plantersville, and City of Bedias, they are going to be working on either sales tax, or positions within their city council,”
“So, we have a lot going on, and spread out around the county. This election will affect almost every voting precinct,” said Ybarra.
That was county elections administrator Lucy Ybarra speaking. Now, her office instilled a new program as well, the Countywide Polling Program, which means you are not stuck voting in your specific precinct, you can head anywhere in the limits of Grimes County.
“That is a program that works will, and really benefits our voters. It serves everyone commuting in and out of the county. You can always vote, any election, t any open voting precinct,” said Ybarra.
She does note, through, that early voting starts on April 19th.
“Early voting is short for these kind of elections. It is only seven days. So, it is April 19th through April 27th. Then, election day is a really easy one for folks in the community, that is Saturday, May 1st,” Ybarra said.
As you heard her say, May elections are on Saturday May 1st, with early voting starting April 19th.
