Valentines Day Vandalization

February 24, 2018 by Willy1550

A young Navasota man was last reported to be behind bars on a total bond of $22,500, on four charges relating to the alleged vandalizing of two downtown businesses before dawn on Valentines Day.

29-year-old David Cruz was arrested early Valentines Day morning by officers of the Navasota Police Department, who were responding to several calls they’d received shortly before six, describing debris falling from the upper levels of Prosperity Bank.

Upon entering the bank in the 100 block of West Washington avenue, officers discovered Cruz, alone inside. they also noted that the facility had been extensively damaged.

Arresting officers report that upon his apprehension, Cruz confessed to them that he’d forced his way into both the bank and into Notos Home and Auto, directly across the railroad tracks, with the intention of causing, “as much damage as possible.”

Between the two sites, the Navasota P.D. initially estimates a total of more than $80,000 in damage.

Following his arrest, Cruz was transported to the Grimes County Jail, charged with a total of four counts:  two counts of Burglary of a Building, a state jail felony, each punishable by up to two years in jail, and two counts of Criminal Mischief, a third-degree felony, each punishable by up to 10 years behind bars and a fine up to $10,000.

If he is eventually convicted, Cruz could, in a worst case scenario, be looking at spending nearly a quarter century behind bars.
