Local Kickstart Kids Take Home 23 Medals

April 11, 2016 by Willy1550

Nearly two dozen local kids earned gold, and silver, and bronze earlier this month, as Navasota Junior High’s Kickstart Kids hosted the 2016 Central Texas Kickstart Kids Regional Championships.

Program Director Master Ben Mendez reports that more than 1,000 competitors and parents packed the Navasota High School Gym to bare witness to young boys and girls, spar, perform and compete to be the best.

Mendez tells Navasota News more than 80 percent of his kids walked out of the competition with a medal; 9 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze. And a dozen of the nearly 30 local kids who took part will be moving on to the state finals this weekend April 16th.

Among them, Mendez beams, will Navasota’s own world champion, Morgan Smith who brought home a 1st place title after going up against one of her Navasota peers.

We at Navasota News wish Master Mendez and his Rattler Dozen the best of luck next week. And will be letting you know how they did later, at 1550am and here online.
