Whether they were striking a blow against tyranny, protecting their homes, defending a friend’s life in combat, for whatever the reason, the ladies of Navasota VFW post 4006 want to make sure no one in the county of grimes ever forgets the sons, daughters, fathers and mothers who’ve fought and died for our country. And they’re asking for your help.
Auxiliary president Mary Fontaine tells Navasota News, “the main cemetery in Houston charges $60 per wreath,” and she continues, they have the skills and determination to take care of the graves in county.
Fontaine adds, in southern Grimes alone, there are more than 500 military grave sites, some dating back all the way back to the Civil War.
She’s asking for old crafts like baskets, wreaths, ribbons, ect. And drop it off at the VFW, the Auxiliary will take care of the rest.
“No money’s involved,” Fontaine adds, “It’s all from the heart.”
She’s like the donations turned in by Halloween, adding if you know of a veterans grave not marked with a military emblem, or just want to know more, call her at 936-825-3455
