Navasota’s Mayor recently joined other elected state officials in giving their honey-do lists for the upcoming legislative session to State Representative Leighton Schubert at his leadership summit in La Grange.
And Bert Miller says he wasn’t Grimes County’s only representative among two-dozen or so folks there. Iola’s Mayor Christine Stover also attended. And infrastructure funding, he reports, was a hot topic of interest to all.
Miller tells Navasota News, cities can get federal help through grants, but they have to compete with each other for them, so he is hoping more funds will be allotted to those programs.
Another issue that popped-up, he continues, was the state’s effort to cap revenues collected from cities and counties, but, he adds, less revenue would necessarily limit the state’s ability to help.
Mayor Miller says it was good talking about the city’s needs, and he believes this will get the ball rolling in Austin. But if not, he continues, Navasota will just have to come up with local solutions.
