Madisonville man arrested for attacking officer

A Madisonville Police Officer was attacked during a traffic stop on Monday.

According to authorities, during a traffic stop, the suspect stopped began assaulting the officer and attempted to choke her. The suspect then broke away and ran to a nearby home, hiding in a room. He was coerced out by gunpoint a short time later.

The Madisonville officer received a torn ligament in her middle finger, a bruise on her left elbow and bruising in the neck and chest area. She was released from the hospital a short time after the incident.

In addition, the officer stated that Sherman appeared to be under the influence of some type of narcotic during the attack.

The attacker was identified as 35 year old Terry Joe Sherman, who was arrested and booked into the Madison County Jail on charges of Driving While License Invalid with Previous Convictions, Assault on a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest.
