The trial for a man accused of hitting and killing a father and daughter on Highway 6 near the Grimes County line has been postponed.
35 year old Brandon Chase Bowers of Houston faces two charges of manslaughter for the November 2018 accident that killed 65 year old Charles Swist and his daughter, 32 year old Madora Swist, who both hailed from Bryan.
Texas DPS says the incident happened when Madora Swist’s car ran out of gas on Highway 6 south of College Station near FM 159 on November 2nd of 2018. Her father, Charles, arrived to assist in refueling.
The crash report states both cars were parked on the side of the highway in the northbound lanes. During the refueling process, that is when Bowers struck both the victims and their cars. Three children, ages 10, 6 and 1 years old, were inside Madora’s vehicle and were unharmed.
Bowers admitted to texting a girl on his cell phone at the time of the crash, and not seeing the vehicles or pedestrians.
Bowers was indicted by a Brazos county Grand Jury in January 2019 on two counts of manslaughter. He was booked into the Brazos County Detention Center in June 2019 and released on the same day he arrived after posting $50,000 bond.
Bowers trail date has not yet been set.
