Meth found during traffic stop leads to arrest of Iola man

October 4, 2021 by Willy1550

An Iola man was arrested for the 9th time after being found with methamphetamine early Friday morning.

The driver was travelling westbound on FM 1179 around 2 am, when Bryan Police initiated a traffic stop for an expired registration, dated May 2021. The driver exited the vehicle, and was told to get back inside. The officer noticed a torch lighter in the front seat, along with the vehicle full of furniture and tools.

The driver said he was helping a friend move, which the officer noted was suspicious due to the time of night.

A search of the vehicle yielded a bag with hypodermic needles plus a glass pipe with meth residue inside. Inside a pack of cigarettes, the officers found two small baggies with crystal meth inside.

The driver was arrested, and identified as 52 year old John Victor May of Iola. He faced a Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 charge, and was released the same day after posting a $10,000 bond.
