Multiple people detained by ICE in Grimes County traffic operation

February 7, 2020 by Willy1550

A plethora of state troopers were in Grimes County Thursday afternoon assisting in a joint task force traffic enforcement operation.

Texas DPS confirmed that multiple people were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Texas DPS and officers with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

DPS says they conducted a task force operation in Brazos and Grimes County on Thursday. They identified vehicles and drivers who may be in violation of state laws or federal commercial vehicle regulations.

Troopers say that it is policy to reach out to federal immigration authorities if they have reasonable suspicion of a person unlawfully in the United States. Because of that, DPS says ICE was on standby for Thursday.

Most of the traffic stops happened south of Navasota along Highway 6.

Navasota PD and the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office did not assist in the operation. ICE did not release any further information due to law enforcement sensitivities.

The number of citations given out is unknown.
