New murals might be coming to Downtown Navasota in the near future. At last night’s city council meeting, city manager Brad Stafford spoke for Patti Peterson, and talked about applying for a grant to add some more art work to the Navasota sights.
And, as Stafford explains, it is an opportunity that will not cost the city any money.
“It is a 100 percent funded, so we would not have a matching fund. It is to expand the arts in Navasota. I spoke with [Patti Peterson} about some things. She is going to be concentrating solely on murals. She is putting all of that together,” Stafford said.
The original idea was to paint artwork on the planter boxes. But, after some discussion between Peterson and Stafford, it was changed to just murals on the sides of buildings. Stafford mentioned that on planter boxes, it would later create some maintenance issues and overall aesthetic issues as well.
The council approved the go ahead to apply for the grant. The deadline to apply is this Thursday.
