Navasota City Council Acts On Flood Mitigation

December 8, 2016 by Willy1550

Flooding and prevention was on City Council’s in its latest meeting. Council accepted a small piece of property in the flood plain after its owner thought giving it away was her best option.

The City’s Sarah Korpita reports the property was located in the city’s Carver Neighborhood, and continues, it’s looking at another piece of land; held in trust after its previous owner stopped paying taxes on it.

City Manager Brad Stafford says the city will continue to collect more flood-prone land, via donations or from tax delinquent property.

And when it has collected enough in the flood-plain, he continues, the city can turn them into tools like detention ponds or green place areas, to keep residents and their home above water.

As the city continues its flood prevention plan you’ll hear about it on Navasota News.
