December 11, 2020 by Andre Perrard

A Navasota High School teacher has won a local award.

According to Navasota ISD, Mrs. Heather Watkins from the high school won the Grimes County VFW Post 4006 Smart-Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Secondary Award.

Watkins has been a teacher at Navasota High School for 10 years, and is chair of the history department. She teaches Advanced World Geography, Advanced World History, and on level World History. She also serves as the Social Studies Department chair, the chair of the National History Day History Fair, and the UIL Academic Team Chair.

In the release, the district said she is the epitome of an outstanding teacher, who cares deeply about America, her students, and instilling a sense of citizenship in her students.

Watkins’ nomination will now be forwarded to the District Chair, and she will be judged for a bigger award with winners from nine other local VFW Posts.
