Navasota High School’s ‘Venom’ performs in New Year’s Day Citrus Bowl

January 4, 2022 by Andre Perrard

Navasota’s own mascot Venom was on the national stage on New Year’s Day.

Hunter Haug, the senior at NHS, is one of 50 mascots across the country who earned the chance to perform at the Citrus Bowl this weekend. Haug will also get to visit DisneyWorld during his trip to Orlando.

Mascots traveled along with cheerleading and dance team members to Orlando for a week of rehearsals dedicated to preparing them for their Citrus Bowl pre-game performance.

The individuals invited to perform in the pre-game performance are Mascot All-Americans from Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) summer camps, two brands under the Varsity Spirit umbrella. All-Americans are selected via tryout based on their overall character development and crowd leading skills. Only the top 10% of the mascots attending UCA or NCA camps earn the chance to perform in this year’s Bowl.

Haug was named an All American mascot in June.
