At last week’s Navasota City Council Meeting, Police Chief Mike Mize talked about the interlocal agreement between NISD and the Navasota Police Department to have 2 officers serve as School Resource Officers (SROs). Chief Mize talked about the duties of the SROs
Chief Mize was asked about the possibility of overtime if SROs work security at school sporting events. He said that is a completely separate contract with Navasota ISD.
The question has been raised about having more officers present at the schools. Chief Mize said that in the next budget, they are asking for funding for an additional SRO and one off-duty assignment for another school. Council approved the interlocal agreement for the 2023-24 school year.
