The Navasota Lady Rattler softball team has a new head coach.
The district announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have hired Doug Harrigan as the new leader of the softball program. Harrigan comes to Navasota with over 17 years experience head coaching from 3A to 5A, and was most recently head coach in Florence.
His playoff successes include a 2012 Regional Semi-Final, 2015 State Tournament appearance and state semi-final, and 2016 and 2017 Regional Final
Added to the staff as well are Lisa Marek, the Lady Rattler head coach from 2009 to 2016, and is the current Cross Country head coach. Marek played softball for Navasota, before playing in college for Northeast Texas, and Sam Houston State.
Staying on staff is current assistant Kaycee Gates, who has been with the team since 2017, and was a pitching standout at both Mid-American University, and Midwestern State University.
Athletic director Casey Dacus said in a statement that it is an exciting day for the program, they have put together a high quality staff, and they are excited to see them take the step from good to great.
