Kids at Navasota ISD start school this coming Monday, and thanks to the most recent construction as part of the bond project, students will see some changes when they step foot in the building.
Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick says that the district got a couple months head start on the summer projects when schools were shut down in march. As for the projects, he said the Junior High is ready to roll on Monday.
“Some minor things here and there. But, as far as classrooms and inside the building, it will be ready for first day of school, and all those major projects completed,” said Musick.
The Junior High projects included the new Kickstart Kids facility, a new roof, and new HVAC systems, among other things.
As for the High School, there is just one last hitch that will not be ready for action, and that is the new CTE building behind the school.
“That was a whole lot of new construction area, that just because of the rains in January and February, we weren’t able to open those up for the first day of school,” Musick said.
He added that Phase 3 construction at High Point and Brule Elementary’s is ongoing.
Outside of the bond projects, there were athletic facility upgrades done this summer, unrelated to the bond, at both the high school and junior high. Dr. Musick says everything at Rattler Stadium is complete, from new scoreboard to the turf, with just one minor fix, which should be complete in a few weeks.
“The elevator project is the only thing that is not already done. Everything else is completely done, and ready to go,” Musick said.
In addition, all the courts at the Junior High and High Schools have been replaced, bleachers in the stands at the junior high have been revamped, and there are new lights and field turf coming for the baseball and softball stadiums. He also mentioned the new Tennis complex is nearing completion.
