Navasota ISD has voted to make masks optional in the district, beginning this summer.
The NISD board voted unanimously Monday night to end the mandatory use of them beginning July 1st. However, the masks will still be used for the duration of summer school, which runs about twelve days.
Any changes to the mask rules would then have to be approved by the board again, should the Texas Education Agency enforce any new restrictions.
Also at the meeting, the district requested that those attending the High School graduation on May 28th wear masks while in the stadium and moving in public areas. Masks can be take off when seated in the stands. Students may remove their masks to receive their diploma, and may shake hands with administrative staff as they walk across the stage. Once seated again, the mask must be worn.
As reported previously, the district is allowing 10 tickets per graduate, bringing the approximate attendance to around 1,600 people.
Graduation is scheduled for Friday, May 28th at 8 pm, and will be held at Rattler Stadium.
