A 22-year-old Navasota man was sentenced to 15-years behind bars in the 12th District Court Tuesday Dec.5th after changing his plea to guilty on two counts of assaulting his girlfriend with a deadly weapon.
Grimes County DA Tuck McLain tells Navasota News, Alfonso Solis has been in Grimes County Jail since last November, after an argument with his girlfriend turned ugly. Reports say while on the way to College Station Solis threw his girlfriend out of his car leaving her to walk home in the rain.
That incident took place in Brazos County, McLain reports, where other charges against Solis are still pending. He then drove back to Navasota, where the young woman also returned, after being picked up by her mother.
The fight then continued and turned violent, as Solis assaulted his girlfriend and beat her with a golf club. The woman eventually got away and called the police.
As his office began building its case against Solis, McLain continues, the girlfriend opened up to Assistant DA Jo Anne Linzer, detailing additional physical abuse Solis had dealt her over the years.
Fortunately, McLain sighs, it’s over now. After Solis changed his plea, the young woman won’t have to appear in court and once again face the man who had terrified her for so long.
Solis remains in the Grimes County Jail on the two, 2nd degree felonies, awaiting transfer to Brazos County, where he is expected to enter a plea to yet another assault charge.
