A driver travelling the wrong direction through a major accident scene leads to the arrest of a Navasota man on a DWI charge.
According to the Bryan Police Arrest report, they responded to a major accident scene on Wellborn Road in Bryan, around 2:45 am Saturday. It was also noted it had been raining for some time. They blocked the southbound lanes with patrol vehicles, when officers observed a 1999 Toyota Corolla heading northbound in the southbound lanes.
The driver was told to exit the vehicle, and told officers that he was “good” and could drive his car. He was told to sit on the curb, where officers observed the man to be heavily intoxicated. officers asked the man if they could move his car out of traffic, but could not due to the vehicle having an interlock detection system installed.
The man said he was looking for his girlfriend, but did not know where he was. He stated he lives in Navasota, but mentioned a trailer house near Walmart in College Station.
The suspect said he had no alcohol, but officers performed a field sobriety test, where the man stated he was sober more than once.
He failed the sobriety tests, was arrested, and identified as Ocia Lee Sweed Jr. of Navasota. Authorities also stated Sweed was convicted of DWI twice in Grimes County, in May and November of 2016.
He remains in the Brazos County jail on bonds totaling $8,000.
