A Navasota man has been identified as the victim of a shooting in College Station last Friday.
That is according to College Station police, who identified 23 year old Cameron James Gray of Navasota as the person who was killed at the Texas Avenue HEB. Officers responded around 8 pm to the parking lot to find Gray not breathing and unresponsive. Gray was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspects were reported to have taken off in a blue SUV.
Gray’s girlfriend said she and Gray went to meet two individuals for unknown reasons, and that a tall black male got into the back seat of their car, with another male staying in the SUV next to them. An argument ensued when the male in the SUV walked to the driver side, and brandished a gun. The man from the SUV was shot in the leg during the scuffle, and that is when the man in the backseat leaned up, and shot Gray in the back.
A third party witness claimed he saw the girl running from the car, as the wounded man and the other sped away in their blue SUV. The suspects were seen by an off-duty deputy a few minutes later, entering the emergency room at CHI St. Joseph in College Station.
The man who was shot has not been identified yet, but the driver of the SUV was identified as 18 year old Trevon Marcel Stewart of Lexington. Stewart stated in the report they met at the HEB to buy a quarter pound of marijuana.
A search of the vehicle revealed three semi-automatic handguns, plus a trash bag of marijuana and THC wax. Total weight of the marijuana was 15.77 ounces, and the wax weight 17.6 grams.
An autopsy of Gray’s body confirmed he died from a gunshot wound to the back, which exited his chest, and was also shot in the left leg twice.
Trevon Stewart was jailed on charged of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2 between 4 grams and 400 grams, Possession of Marijuana over 4 ounces in a Drug Free Zone, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
He remains in the Brazos County jail on bonds totaling $975,000.
