While there’s no evidence of the dreaded Zika virus in the County of Grimes to date, the City of Navasota wants to encourage its citizens to protect themselves from whichever of the 85 different kinds of mosquitoes are here by surveying their property. The City’s Cindy Armatis says to be on the lookout for standing water on your property.
Also, Armatis advises to closely check all the screens on your windows and doors. Patch any holes you find, no matter how small, and be sure to seal the openings around any window air conditioning units.
In the meantime, she assures Navasota News the City is moving ahead, doing its part by the placement of larvacide briquettes any place where mosquitoes are likely to breed.
Armatis also advises the use of bug zappers away from high traffic areas, as they actually attract mosquitoes, to wear light-colored clothing when outdoors, and don’t forget to apply DEET.
And when is mosquito season?
Armatis laughs, it’s always mosquito Season in Texas.
