Navasota PD’s New/Old Chief

May 19, 2018 by Willy1550

Navasota has a new chief of police today who’s actually an old chief of police.  Shawn Myatt recalls the events in City Manager Brad Stafford’s office on the 10th that brought it all about.

He says Chief Justin Leeth came in to visit with the two of them, telling them he wanted to seek other opportunities and to use his accumulated time off to pursue those opportunities.  Then he and Stafford agreed that he would come back downstairs to re-assume the responsibilities of police chief.

Myatt will also continue his role as assistant city manager, while cutting back a tad on the scope of his responsibilities.  In addition to his responsibilities with the P.D., he will also be over human resources and fire.  That’ll leave other city staff to pick up the duties of parks and recreation and marketing and communications.

Myatt recalls that Justin Leeth has actually worked for the city longer than he has.  Even though he has worked here for a dozen years, Leeth had already been here a year when he arrived.  And he spent nearly six of those 13 years as Myatt’s First Lieutenant.

New-old Chief Myatt tells Navasota News not to look for him to leave at all.  Ever.  He says he and his wife love Navasota, have their home here and look forward to residing here the rest of their days.
